Bali April 2013

Last few days!
All the glasses were fine except R had to change the type of frame for his prescription sunnies and the other pair were a bit loose but Hendri after quite a few adjustments got them to fit properly. R had a suede jacket made and it fit perfectly. I had a wallet and some leather key tags made for one of my daughters, repaired a leather bag for the other daughter. A belt and another leather pouch. Very happy with the work. Also had a winter jacket made for my daughter from a pic she sent me on the phone and Bali Sun Tailors did an excellent job in a short time. I know I have probably missed heaps of things we did but it is a bit of a blur. We have been back 2 weeks now and I have been sick and still not recovered from some bacterial infection.
We enjoyed our stay at Villa Senang that was tucked in amongst a residential area. The dogs got used to us walking by everyday as did the locals.Only bad point was the construction of the very large hotel behind us but it wasnt too bad. We had a 9am flight to Perth which was at an acceptable hour. Didnt do a lot of shopping this time other than the essential soaps etc oh and some wooden cats that I just had to have.
Overall I dont think this trip was our best and only because of the way we were feeling. We love Sanur, still heaps of lovely restaurants and decent shopping. The closest we came to Kuta this trip was to Bali Galleria.
Im not sure when I will get back there R is planning another trip next year on his own and im not to sure how he will go considering his condition (epilepsy). Im sure that Nyoman will watch out and take good care of him. If I happen to remember more I will certainly add to this. Hope it wasnt too boring. Will post some pics soon. Lucy

The next few days!
Woke up not feeling the best, not quite BB but considering this was our 4th trip to Bali and we have never been sick on any of them, it was not nice. Felt bad all morning so no breakfast for me just some dry toast. Thankfully no vomiting. We had planned a half day trip to Uluwatu and surrounds and then have dinner at Jimbaran I still went along and tried to enjoy the things we saw. No dinner for me either. Its hard watching others eat....Still no better the next day..dry toast again...R woke with the same thing the next day! I dont think it was food related as we ate different things. Anyway that all but wiped out a couple of days for both of us. R recovered after getting some antibiotics. I went from feeling ok to not over a few days..then decided also to get antibiotics. That helped to get on with the holiday. On a day when we were both feeling better we went to visit Nyoman's family in Sangeh which is near Ubud. They put on a lovely spread of food for us and we played with the children and looked around the compound. Next day we had breakfast at Mona Lisa, good eggs benedict...planned a few hours trip today heading to Goa Gajah and Gunung Kawi. Considering I was weakened by the stomach bug I somehow manage the 315 steps down and back. Lovely peaceful place and couldnt understand why we hadnt been before this. Finished the day back in Sanur ordering some leather goods to be made. Days are a bit of a blur as I went from feeling ok to feeling awful. So we took advantage of the feeling ok and tried various place to eat. Star Bar, Rib, Three Monkeys, Mona Lisa Cinnamon. Massages,pedicure/manicure at Expression were excellent. Had a couple of requests so went to Sukawati market to find an elusive object and was over the moon when I found it. Also did a trip to Candi Kuning spice market to stock up on vanilla beans (still think I paid too much but still so much cheaper than here). So while we were in that direction decided to go to Bedugul and have a bit of a wander. On the way back decided to stop at the Ghost Hotel. What a shame this place never opened it is in such a lovely location. Spent about an hour wandering around and taking some photos. On the way back down R began to have some fits (epilepsy) they are strange vocal that last about 15-20 seconds but he had them all the way back to Sanur. This settled by dinner time. Overall we had a relaxing trip some forced and the rest by choice. Time to start picking up the glasses and the leather to make sure we have time for any adjustments.
Sanur!
Not enough sleep but will somehow get by. Nyoman our friend and driver is picking us up at 9 so after a light breakfast (included) we set off. Plan is to do a few things around Denpasar mainly to get an internet dongle for the laptop we are giving to Nyoman and his family. After that was sorted we stopped at Carrefour and bought a few bits then decided we were hungry so just headed to Sanur for lunch. Nyoman chose Beach Cafe. He had his wife and youngest daughter with him so we all lunched then headed to check in to the Villa. We decided on Villa Senang as it was reasonable in price ($80 per night) the good reviews. Booking was a breeze and the deposit was only $160 (2 nights). Met there by Ginny who was prepared to give us heaps of info not knowing that we have been to Sanur before. Nice touch was having some essentials stocked for us to start with. Had a couple of hours rest then decided an early dinner might be the way to go. Ate at Retro and it didnt disappoint. Fairly early night as we had a big day tomorrow.
Dentist appointment at Retno Agung for both of us at 10am so set out and had breakfast then decided to walk up there and check out some massage place on the way. Found a place called Expression along the way that looked nice so decided we would give it a try on the way back. Surgery was undergoing renovations and they were most apologetic. R had his check up and clean and didnt need any other work. I had broken a front tooth about 5 weeks before our trip so after a full check up and clean the filling. No numbing needed and it was over very quickly. Excellent as usual. So off we went to have our first massage. We had to wait about 15 min as this place only have 3 employees including the owner. Massage was excellent and this place was so clean with a shower cubicle in each of the 2 treatment rooms. Nyoman then picked us up and we went to the Ducks Nutz for lunch. After lunch it was time to go and order some glasses at Wina Optical. So 2 for me including some prescription sunnies, R also had 2, then 2 pairs for my brother so that he can have some spare but that included sunnies. My son also wanted some so initially order 1 pair for him but then he asked me to order another 2 including sunnies. It took awhile as I had to choose frames not only for myself but for 2 other people. That done we could start to relax and enjoy the holiday. Back to the villa and a couple of hours of relaxing till dinner time. Decided on Lillas Warung as it was down the road a little. Nice food. We were both pretty tired so decided on a quick return to get some more zz's.
Sanur April 2013
So I had good intentions to do this blog whilst in Bali and that didnt happen. Wifi at our villa was not working and I spent more time trying to get a connection than I would have liked too...so frustrating. So I attempted some HNR's and after doing 2 and still suffering from some form of stomach bug I decided I would leave the rest till after I get home.
So Tuesday 16th we set off...Hobart-Melb-Perth-Bali...mmm a certain someone who I will refer to as R really likes to go the long way around but his reasoning is that he got great fares doing that way.
Hobart to Melb flight delayed by over an hour and we were worried that we wouldnt get our connecting flight to Perth we got off our flight and straight on to the next one which was already boarding and only 2 gates away...phew. Good flight to Perth (Virgin) provided with a meal which was ok and considering we hadnt had a chance to eat. Had about 5 hours to kill in Perth and I considered hiring a car and taking a drive but as I somehow misplaced my drivers license that would have been a no-go. Had a meal and way too many ciggies and a couple of very average coffees and R bought some duty free whisky 1 to take and 2 to pick up on the way back. Loaded with some snack food and a good book we were off. Arrive 1.05 am not real delays probably about 20 min from voa to the baggage..
We booked at the BaliRa Airport Hotel for the night as we felt it was unreasonable to expect the villa owners to come out at that hour. Pick up was fairly smooth expect the poor young driver who was on his first drive to the airport couldnt find his way out. We all had a good laugh though. Arrived, they had a nice pot of coffee on in the reception area, yes please ( I can drink coffee at anytime of day)! Asleep by 2.15 am.

5 weeks-countdown begins
This will be the 4th trip to Bali and the one I didnt really want to go on. Robin decided about a month after our return last year to book again. I love Bali but felt it was time just to have a couple of short breaks at home or at least close to home. Last year my eldest daughter married 2 weeks prior to our Bali trip...she did schedule her marriage around our holiday. Since we did everything ourselves catering, flowers, decoration I was exhausted and yes the Bali trip did help.
So on the 16th April we are headed to Bali again. Staying in Sanur as we love it there. Everything on your doorstop without the hustle and bustle of Kuta and Seminyak. This time we have opted to rent a villa. The last 2 years we have stayed in a small place called Starling Villa's also in Sanur. 6 seperate rooms around a central courtyard and pool. Reading is something I do a lot of whilst in Bali and as nice as the rooms are there is really nowhere for me to sit or curl up and read outside or inside other than the bed.
This is likely to be our last trip to Bali for a least a couple of years and even though I have posted JBR's each trip I though I may as well get into blogging. This way I can record day by day and not have to try and remember all the details after I return home. Now its time to prepare for 18 days away...mmm massages, dentist appointments more massages...and a visit to Wina Optical for some new glasses. Also seeing all the people we have met on the previous 3 trips....did I say I didn't want to go to Bali......
